Abstract

The Disarmament Study Series highlights United Nations General Assembly studies in the field of disarmament undertaken by groups of governmental experts. This study is the first of its kind by the Uni.ted Nations to investigate in depth various schools of thought and points of view on the concept of deterrence. Part one establishes a general framework for this study which includes individual and, in some cases, joint contributions reflecting the various analyses and opinions on the theme. Part two presents a brief summary of the different arguments and counter-arguments on the individual papers as contained in part one. And part three contains a compilation of the respective points of view of the experts expressed in their own words.
